Global Climate Change Question - Dick Rauscher

Despite my best attempts to stay out of crowds and obsessively wash my hands whenever I was in public, I still came down with the flu this year. First time in ten years. Trust me, you don’t want it.

While I was surfing the internet, the only thing I had any energy to do, I came across Michael Dowd’s fifty-two, one-hour, online interviews with global climate change scientists and environmental activists.

Those 52 interviews have given a new purpose to my life as a writer. I no longer have any doubt that the global climate change warnings that 98% of our world’s top environmental scientists are warning us about are not only true, but are also dangerously understated and under-estimated.

Our children and grandchildren are clearly going to live on a very different planet than we experienced growing up.

To a person, the 52 people interviewed by Dowd were in agreement. If you are not feeling despair over the suffering that future generations are going to experience, you are uninformed or in major denial. Despair is a reasonable human response for those who are informed and have the courage to face the crises that are coming. But if you give in to the despair and choose to do nothing, you have become part of the problem.

Every human being on the planet needs to show up and begin doing what they can to help us move as quickly as possible toward a more sustainable and self-reliant human culture. Each of us can become part of the solution. We simply have to become better informed.

Beware Of The Naysayers

Many of the people interviewed by Dowd warned those listening to beware of the global climate change naysayers. Those naysayers of global warming and global climate change are funded by the petroleum industry, multinational corporations, and the ultra-wealthy 1%. Together they have bought and paid for our world’s politicians and governments.

When you hear these brokers of doubt spreading their intentional distortions and doubts about the realities of global climate change, take a moment to ask yourself the question “who are the people paying their salary”? How would they profit if their brokers of doubt were successful? If you believe the Koch brothers have your best interests in mind, you might want to become better informed.

The Greatest Moral Issue Ever Faced By Humanity

Global climate change is the greatest moral issue ever faced by humanity. It is also a major social justice issue. Millions living near or below the poverty level are already experiencing the impact of global climate change as a result of record storms and droughts.

The reckoning that is coming for decades of having lived out of right relationship with nature and reality is real. It’s here. Our environmental scientists are warning us, we cannot continue on the path we’ve been walking on for the last two hundred years. We have run out of time. The changes we need to make toward sustainability need to happen now. Not tomorrow.

We Need To Be Aware that:

  • Nature writes the rules, not humans.

  • Nature is not an “IT” to be exploited like our primitive ego would have us believe.

  • We are part of, not apart from, the world we live in.

  • And nature is not a garbage can.

We Know In Our Hearts That Global Climate Change Is Real And True

We know in our hearts that global climate change is happening and real. We know in our hearts that our economic system is broken. We don’t need someone else to tell us this fact. We know our political system is broken. We know that our politicians are almost to a person owned by the wealth of the 1%. Our politicians are caught in a bind. If they say no to the 1%, they know their political career will end in the next election. We know in our hearts that this is true.

The change will need to come from the bottom up, not the top down.

We need to spiritually awaken our consciousness to that of an I – Thou relationship with nature and reality. We need to “see” and “honor” the sacredness of nature and life, and stop treating nature, our planet, and reality as an IT to be exploited and used.

The Question I Know Is Coming

Our children and grandchildren are going to ask us someday soon, “What were you doing while our planet was being destroyed by greed”? I for one want to be able to look them in the eye and say “Everything I could possibly think to do!”.

We owe it to our children, our grandchildren, and future generations to begin living in right relationship with nature and reality. They are praying we have the wisdom to protect the planet they will be inheriting from us.

Summary

As readers of the Stonyhill-Nuggets newsletter, you understand the limitations and dangers of “us vs. them” thinking. Over the coming months, I will share with you some of what I learned listening to the interviews. The interview series was called “The Future Is Calling Us To Greatness.” You can find all of the interviews on www.en*theos.com.

The video series on Amazon called “Years of Living Dangerously” is another excellent resource to help you better understand the severity of global climate change and the devastating impact it is already having on millions of people around the globe.

The change will need to come from the bottom up, not the top down.
